The Trump Hair

Okay, does she not slightly resemble Donald Trump with that hairdo???

(except soooooo much cuter)

Spring Break '10

This year for Spring Break we headed to Gleneden Beach for some family time. We totally lucked out and had fabulous weather the first 3 days!

Got to play on the beach for a bit, although it was very windy!! But when isn't it on the Oregon coast!

Grandma and Kylie

Playin' in the sand

Cute little baby girl

Diggin' some holes

Putting together a kite

On the 4th day we got our typical Oregon coast weather back so we headed to the Mark Hatfield Science Center.

It was much cheaper than the Oregon Coast Aquarium and everybody had a great time!

Even Kylie was good in the stroller!

They had great fish and a huge octopus and a whole tank of 'Nemos' like the fish from 'Finding Nemo' so the boys were very excited.

Everyone loved the 'touch tank' where they got to touch all sorts of cool things!

All in all a great spring break...now back to reality! : )

The blog's biggest fan

I wanted to take a minute to recognize Mike's mom, Cherie. She was an amazing woman. I am so grateful to her that she took Mike home from the hospital when she did and raised him to be the man that he is today. She loved her grandkids more than life itself, I think. She checked my blog every day to see what was new in the Sommer household and to keep tabs on the kids' lives. I know that the distance was hard on her (she lived in Montana) and I partly started this blog for her and Dave so that they could be a part of our daily lives through the stories and pictures.

She lost her battle with lung cancer on Thursday, March 18th. Mike was so thankful to get to spend her last days with her. I wanted to take a minute to recognize her life, and I know that she is in a happier place now where she will be watching over all of us every day.

The First Fire of the Season

Zach has been asking for a week to build a fire in the fire pit. So, we broke out the chairs, the marshmallows and graham crackers and built a fire.

Everyone got all bundled up

Sunglasses included ('to keep the smoke out of my eyes')

Papa and Kylie all snuggled up

Mike was teaching Matthew some 'lost in the woods' techniques, something about magnesium and petroleum jelly. I didn't pay too much attention because I don't think I'll ever be in the woods without one of them. : )

Can't wait for many more fires in our backyard this year!

Busy, busy day!

This morning I got to head out by myself to the Bellies, Babies and Beyond consignment sale. I love this sale! I come home with bags and bags of clothes for the kids for very little cost. Kylie got a new hat!

Tonight we went to a birthday party at the Carousel for one of the boys' friends from preschool and Zach was very excited to get a frog painted on his face!

I bought the boys new vests today, and Tyler LOVES his. So much so that he wore it to bed tonight over his PJ's. Notice the OSU colors of this vest? (you're welcome mom)

Mike leaves for Montana at 6am tomorrow for the next 4 days. We will miss him terribly but I am so grateful that he is going to go see his mom and dad.

Pigtails

As promised, here are some pics. These are from today....Kylie with her first set of pigtails.

Her shirt was in the dryer because she got apple juice all over it! She has a new sippy cup which she loves, but she tends to get a bit carried away with it. : )

The boys just love her so much! They insist on taking care of her all the time.

And the boys absolutely love computer games now. This is a video of them playing in Matthew's room. This game sings songs to them and they love acting out the hand motions.

Lots going on....

...but no pictures to post! We have been so crazy busy lately that I haven't had a chance to take any pictures! I hope to get on that this week. Lots going on around here....
---Matthew is getting his permit tomorrow. (aaaahhhh!)
---Kylie will be 7 months old tomorrow
---Everyone (except me, knock on wood) has a cold right now
---Mike has been working lots and has tons of court stuff coming up
---I have had some big projects under way...we'll see what happens with them and will post more if/when things progress....
---Kathryn starts softball this week
---Matthew started lacrosse and has practice until 9:30pm on school nights! What happened to 'kids need to go to bed early to get lots of sleep'?
---The boys started their spring semester of preschool this week
---And most importantly of any of those....we are saying LOTS of prayers for Mike's mom, Grandma Cherie. She is not feeling well and is awaiting some test results. We pray for her many, many times a day that she feels better very, very soon. The good news is that Mike will be making a trip to Montana next week to see her and his dad Dave.
Pics to come, I promise....
